If Your Heart Were a House, What Needs to Go?

If your heart were a house, what would you find inside right now? Dusty corners? Closed doors? Boxes you haven’t opened in years? Memories you’ve been too afraid to sort through?
At the end of a movie, we do a full recap and always analyze the scenes. The roles everyone played, the lessons learned, the villain who caused chaos, and the quiet hero who held everything together, then sweep out what was hiding, act by act!
Life is requesting the same from you. It is gently inviting you to walk through the rooms of your inner world and thoroughly look at what you’ve been carrying. Not with judgment. Not with shame. But with honesty. Because just like the home you live in, your heart collects things: Emotions, habits, people, moments, and not everything is meant to stay forever.
When you clean a physical house, you don’t keep everything. Some things get thrown away, some things get washed clean, some things get repaired, and some must be removed simply because they take up space where something better could live, or worse, they stain the space you’ve worked so hard to clean.
Start in the Room of Relationships.
Who brought peace into your life, who brought chaos, who nourished your growth, and who quietly chipped away at your confidence? Not everyone deserves a room in your heart. Some people were only meant to visit, but you let them unpack their bags and settle in. Maybe it’s time to hand them their suitcase.
Move to the Room of Habits.
Which habits strengthened you, which ones slowed you down, which ones have kept you stuck in the same cycle year after year? Some habits need to be washed and renewed, while others belong in the trash bin permanently.
Then check the Storage Room where your memories are packed.
What memories are you replaying that still hurt? What moments are you holding onto out of fear, not purpose? Some memories are worth keeping, some are worth learning from, while some are meant to be released so they stop controlling your future.
Move to the room of worries and fears.
Step into the Room of Worries and Fears. Sweep out the what-ifs, the doubts, the shadows, and take a long breath. You’re far stronger than you believe.
Now look at the Clutter.
Old beliefs, old versions of yourself, old expectations handed to you by others, old disappointments you keep sweeping under the rug. They take up space, weigh your heart down, and whisper lies that were never yours to carry. You deserve a heart that feels open, spacious, and free.
Finally, check the Room of Dreams.
Are your dreams still alive, or have you shoved them into a corner because life felt heavy? Bring them out again, dust them off, and put them where you can see them. Because a clean heart is not an empty one. It is a heart with room for hope again.
This December 2025, don’t just clean your physical house, clean your heart. Remove what breaks you. Wash what needs healing, repair what deserves another chance, and make space for what’s coming.
2026 isn’t waiting for a perfect you, it’s waiting for a lighter you… A “you” who knows what no longer belongs. A you who finally says:
“If my heart were a house… this cannot go with me into the new year.”
Don’t be fearful, doubtful, or afraid to walk alone. Remember this: The lighter the baggage, the easier the journey.
Let the cleaning begin! And remember, others are cleaning their houses too. Reflect on the role you played in other people’s movies and amend so that you are not swept out!
